With dramatic settings of Alexandr Blok and Alexandr Pushkin, Svirdov captures the beauty, heartbreak, ecstasy and tragedy that these great Russian poets have made beloved to millions. Sviridov, born in 1915, was one of the most distinguished Russian composers of the Twentieth Century as well as a well-known pianist.

Global opera star Dmitri Hvorostovsky retains strong musical and personal ties with Russia. While he will be performing this year on the stages of the Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera, Carnegie Hall, Covent Garden and La Scala, his connection with his homeland is passionate. It is important to note that Svirdov wrote "Petersburg" especially for Hvorostovsky, who along with Mikhail Arkadiev performed this work for Svirdov on his 80th Birthday Jubilee Celebration at a Russian broadcast performance. Arkadiev has been a frequent accompanist for Hvorostovsky and is a composer and musicologist based in Russia. This poignant and timely release is perfect for all locations, and will be the feature of an intense global media campaign.
