Did You Know?

Audio Tech

Delos has been releasing SACDs for a little over two years now. Not all of our CD titles have been released on SACD yet, but you should know that for the past three years or so, the vast majority of Delos recordings that have been released on CD have been recorded in DSD®.

DSD or Direct Stream Digital, is the technology that allows SACD to achieve its full potential. Delos has been committed to high resolution audiophile sound for decades. That's why we became early advocates of Sony's DSD® technology. Since we began using the DSD process, our CDs have benefitted from the incredible resolution of the DSD® sources that we bring back from all of our recording sessions. We record, edit, and master in DSD®; then we use Sony's SBM (Super Bit-Mapping) Direct® to convert the DSD® files into the PCM that ends up on our CDs. So, even if you have not heard any of our Multi-channel/Hybrid SACDs (and you really should hear them!), you are still hearing a superior CD, an original recording made in DSD®.

p.s. Keep a lookout for more Delos Stereo/Multi-Channel/Hybrid SACDs.

Nice to hear that you're recording mostly in dsd. It's really unfortunate however that you have discontinued sacd releases, the few that you have released are mostly of very good sound. Why did you stop ? I'm really missing Ewa Podles Handel arias on sacd for example.

I found and enjoyed my first Delos scd and was impressed (W0GJG Ham radio ) I enjoy music, play a bit myself as hobby.

I will visit the Boarder book store again for repeat.

I only buy sacds. Since you no longer make them, I obviously won't be buying them. If you make them people will buy them. You already record in DSD. Why record in DSD to make rbcd?
Delos has always been known for good recordings. Sacd has the best sound. Seems a natural. What gives?

I agree with the above comments. Your SACDs are excellent, sounding better than the redbook versions, and your recording quality and philosophies are perfect for the medium, both in two and multi-channel formats. I too am principally buying SACDs these days for my new music purchases; it bothers me that your pure DSD recordings are only being released on redbook CD. Any reason why we haven't seen any recent SACD releases, and any chance we'll be able to get some more from Delos in the future?
